LEAD
The Leading Edge
An elegant urban ensemble that sets new standards for sustainability and liveability while adding energy, greenery and a new landmark to the city – that’s LEAD, our design for a residential complex in Leiden. The development consists of a trio of towers: two are linked by a staggered plinth topped by green terraces and the tallest stands alone on the crossroads. Public functions in the plinth, combined with a landscaped public park at ground level knits these elements together.
LEAD is accessible to all – each tower accommodates a mix of housing types and demographics.’
State-of-the-art sustainability
State-of-the-art sustainability
LEAD sets the standard for future residential buildings while embracing the city’s past. The stately architecture of old Leiden is translated into a warm and welcoming contemporary building. LEAD was designed with sensitivity to its surroundings and in consultation with its neighbors, so that it fits organically into its context. The vibrant Willem de Zwijgerlaan is characterised by a formal facade design and gradually shifts towards a more open and informal design on the calm and sunlit south side. Climate adaptive needs are anticipated by our ambitious sustainability standards, from low energy use and a heat and cooling system, to passive sun shading and water retention.
The sculptural profile of each tower avoids a massive appearance, preserves views, and reduces wind and sun issues.’
