Danone

The Grace of the Grid

Wrapped in a continuous grid facade, our elegant, transparent HQ for Danone harmonizes with its green surroundings while embodying an innovative vision of wellness at work. It is also part of something bigger: namely, the refined health- and sustainability-driven ensemble it forms together with its Asics counterpart.

The location on a landscaped campus inspired us to create a transparent building. We took a simple, rectangular volume as the basis for a clean, geometric design, animated by a strong structural grid precisely executed in terrazzo tiles and glass. Organically rounded corners soften the hard edges and further integrate the building into the natural setting, while the rhythm of the facade grid is echoed in the other campus building, the Asics HQ.

We organized the interior around a bright, spacious atrium next to the garden, with an inviting sculptural staircase to the southwest. Large steps mean our stairs can function as spaces for meetings, breaks, and even presentations and lectures. The glass roof, together with the transparent facade, ensures natural light all the way to the ground floor and allows a 20-meter-high, plant-covered vertical garden to flourish happily.
